The Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board (NALWDB) is one of four regional workforce boards established in compliance with the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1999 and certified by the New Mexico Governor. WIA funds are allocated in three subparts: Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth. The Governor, in conjunction with the State Legislature establishes an Administrative Entity responsible for administering WIA funds, setting rules and policies for statewide WIA programs, coordinating partnerships with economic development, education, local governments, state human service agencies, and other workforce programs. In addition, the local board shall establish a Youth Council to include members of the juvenile justice system, public housing, job corps, and other individuals with experience relating to youth activities
The NALWDB was incorporated in 2001 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) to operate as the Administrative Entity for workforce funds in ten northern counties including Cibola, Colfax, Los Alamos, McKinley, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Juan, San Miguel, Santa Fe, and Taos. The NALWDB is comprised of representatives totaling 51% from the private business sector and 49% state partner agencies. Local Chief Elected Officials provide approval of the annual budget and appoint private sector members from nominations made by local Chambers of Commerce, business associations, small business development corporations, economic development corporations, or economic development districts. In addition CEOs may provide insight into the diverse employment and training needs of each area and assist the local board in providing effective, integrated services to enhance the quality of life for local constituentsp> |
